Once debarked the log is conveyed to the log deck where it will be moved onto the carriage. Under the careful control of the sawyer, the log is sawn into lumber. The first step is to square up the log by removing the jacket or outer boards. The sawyer carefully controls this process to insure the highest possible yield from the log.
